Wrenn House

Wrenn House is Haven House Services's runaway/crisis intervention program and shelter. It offers the only shelter for runaway and homeless youth in Wake County and the Triangle.

Wrenn House provides a safe, legal, and responsible environment for youth who run away from home, who are homeless, or are otherwise in a crisis situation. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Who can go? Any youth age 10 - 17 from anywhere in North Carolina and the United States can come to Wrenn House. Priority is given to those youth from Wake County and Raleigh. Wrenn House works closely with Project Safe Place to coordinate convenient and accessible locations in communities where young people in need can find immediate help.

What services are available? Shelter and food, individual/ family/ group counseling, telephone crisis counseling, walk-in counseling, recreation, educational planning, transportation, outreach through Project Safe Place, information, referrals to other service agencies in the community, and aftercare are all alvailable.

What is expected of the youth at Wrenn House? Youths are expected to follow the rules, to participate in the upkeep of the house (chores), and to work on their individual plans to resolve their problems.

How long can someone stay at Wrenn House? Youths come to Wrenn House voluntarily. No one makes these young people come or stay. The length of time varies from 1 day to 14 days.

What happens if rules are broken? Any youth not following the rules will first lose privileges, but is given an opportunity to earn them back. If a youth continues to break the rules, he/she is subject to dismissal. Any youth not willing to work on his/her problems will also be subject to dismissal.

What about school? Each young person is expected to attend the school in which he/she is already enrolled and to attend all classes daily. Transportation is provided.

Are visitors allowed? Wrenn House allows visitors, but only with the counselors' permission.

What about dates? Dates are not allowed. They are not part of the plan for youths to work on their problems.

Is smoking allowed? Wrenn House's philosophy is to promote success and good health. Smoking is an unhealthy behavior and therefore not allowed.

What do young people need to bring to Wrenn House? Clothing should be brought, but no more than 5 changes of clothes. Space is limited. Wrenn House can/will provide all necessary toiletries, such as shampoo, deodorant, etc.
