Youth Enrichment Services (YES)

Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is a Haven House Services program that provides one-on-one mentoring for Wake County youth.

Who are mentors? Local adults, 18 and older, who model responsible behavior, enjoy being around young people, and are able to spend a few hours each week with a young person.

Who are these young people? They are youth ages 7-17 who have been, or are, at risk of getting into trouble, at home, school, or in our community.

What do mentors do? Mentors spend time each week showing their young friends new ways to look at things and exposing them to new experiences. Plans vary - trips to the mall; going fishing; visiting a museum, a park, or library. Sometimes they may work on school assignments, or just sit and talk.

Does a mentor really make a difference? YES! Because of the efforts of all of our mentors, many young people have stayed out of trouble, improved in school, and have learned to get along better with their family.

How can I be a Mentor? We are always looking for good volunteers. Prospective mentors meet with staff for an individual interview. After a background check has been completed, training is provided. A young person will then be selected with compatible interests. A meeting will be arranged, and if all agree, a match will be made! Our staff gives on-going support and guidance to all of our mentors.
