Summary The GRIT Youth Care Specialist is responsible for the delivery of interventions and support services for the agency’s GRIT program, as well as engaging gang-involved youth in providing support to minimize gang involvement, focus on setting and reaching goals and achieving positive outcomes. 
Specific position duties and responsibilities: Engage youth that are actively gang involved, partnering with them and their families to ensure that they have access to services and opportunities that will support positive behavioral changes and minimize involvement in gang related activities Engage youth in their natural ecology, conducting visits to their homes and places where they congregate in the community in accordance with program guidelines, to include working a flexible schedule that reflects the scheduling needs of youth and families served Facilitate weekly group skill building sessions with referred youth utilizing evidence-based program curriculum Work with youth in identifying strengths and needs, developing goals and facilitate activities/interventions that will support goal attainment Assist youth with resolving conflicts with family members, peers and authority figures and assist with the development of interpersonal skills Provide crisis response through safety planning, responding to incidents where youth have been victimized and working with all involved stakeholders to respond to individual and community safety concerns so as to minimize risk for harm Connect  participating youth to supports including educational and employment opportunities in the community Organize monthly prosocial opportunities/events for program youth Serve as an advocate and positive role model for youth in the program, providing reinforcement and recognition for positive behavior in youth that are demonstrating efforts to increase responsible behaviors Link youth to necessary services and supports, acting as a liaison between youth and all involved service providers and involved stakeholders Works with program staff in facilitating trainings related to gang youth issues, delivering trainings to identified stakeholders in the community Complies with all record management requirements Share in the program’s on-call rotation schedule Enters/tracks required data and provides support to the Director in data management efforts General agency duties and responsibilities: Completes all required training Participates in agency outreach and fundraising events Demonstrates a willingness to assist in other agency programs as needed Acts as a custodian and demonstrates responsible and ethical use of agency property and facilities Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics Strives to embody the agency’s Code of Ethics while working towards the agency’s Mission Learns and demonstrates Agency-wide Competencies including the areas of consumer and community relationships, continuous individual and agency-wide improvement, vision and purpose, respect and teamwork and positive leadership Learns, develops, and models Positive Youth Development core competencies resulting in capacity to contribute to the mission of Haven House Services and be a resource to our youth and families, other partner organizations, and our community Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications: ·         Bachelor’s degree in a human service field from an accredited institutionTwo years of related experience and/or training with the target population
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of the NC Juvenile Court System, local community resources, and experience with client documentation and file management Strong written and verbal communication skills
Other requirements: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory driving recordPersonal vehicle for use in conducting home visits and/or transporting clients in the event agency vehicles aren’t availableProof of current/valid car insuranceAcceptable background reportNegative drug screen results
