Mental Health

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) works with families of youth ages 12–17 to identify the root causes of complex emotional, social, and behavioral challenges and support lasting change.

Rather than removing youth from their homes, MST works alongside families to strengthen relationships, build skills, and support stability where it matters most — at home and in the community.

MST recognizes that challenges rarely exist in isolation. By working with the entire family system, the program helps identify root causes and develop practical solutions that parents and caregivers can continue using long after services end.

Families participating in MST have access to:

  •  Individual and family therapy
  •  Parent training and support
  •  Case management
  • 24/7 support and crisis intervention

MST is delivered in the family’s natural environment (home, school and community). MST focuses on creating long-term change that parents are able to sustain after finishing the program.

When behavioral challenges escalate, youth may be at risk of placement outside the home. While sometimes necessary, separation can increase trauma and raise the likelihood of homelessness, justice system involvement, and long-term instability.

MST is an evidence-based treatment program that demonstrates success in reducing/eliminating youth behavioral issues, so they can remain safely in their homes and communities.

MST may be helpful if your child is:

  • Being truant and having academic problems
  • Being seriously disrespectful and disobedient
  • Showing aggressive behaviors or conduct-related disorders, and other conduct issues such as running away or leaving home without permission
  • Using drugs and/or alcohol or engaging in behaviors that could lead to justice system involvement

Outpatient Therapy supports youth and young adults ages 6–24 in understanding and working through emotional, behavioral, and substance use challenges. Our therapists create a safe, supportive space where young people and families can talk openly, build coping skills, and work toward meaningful change.

Services for youth and young adults include:

  • Mental health and substance use assessments
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Individualized goal planning tailored to each person’s needs

We accept all Medicaid plans and offer a sliding fee scale for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, helping ensure care is accessible when it’s needed most.

Addressing mental health and substance use concerns early can prevent challenges from becoming crises later. With the right support, young people can build healthy coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and develop skills that support long-term well-being.

Outpatient Therapy may help if you or your child:

  • Have experienced a major life change, loss, or crisis
  • Are feeling overwhelmed by stress or conflict
  • Are experiencing anxiety, sadness, or emotional struggles
  • Are having difficulties with relationships at home, school, or with peers
  • Are using substances or are concerned about substance use
  • Want to make a change in your life

The Juvenile Assessment Team (JAT) provides comprehensive mental health and substance use assessments for youth involved in the juvenile justice system. As part of their court involvement, young people receive individualized evaluations designed to better understand their needs and connect them with appropriate support.

Youth participating in JAT have access to:

  • Comprehensive mental health and substance use assessments
  • Recommendations and connections to treatment and community resources when needed
  • Brief therapeutic interventions for youth currently detained at the Wake Detention Center

Mental health and substance use concerns are common among youth involved in the juvenile justice system. When these needs go unaddressed, young people face increased risk of continued legal involvement and long-term challenges. By connecting youth to the right services at the right time, JAT helps improve well-being, strengthen decision-making skills, and support pathways toward stability and success.

The Juvenile Assessment Team works exclusively with youth who are referred through the juvenile justice system.
