What we do

Safe Place

What is Safe Place?

Safe Place is a national program that helps young people ages 10-17 in crisis find immediate help and safety. When a youth feels unsafe or needs support, they can go to a designated Safe Place site to connect with trained staff and caring adults who can help determine next steps.

Haven House has been the coordinating agency in Wake County for Safe Place Wake County Safe Place since 1987, providing oversight, training, and support to ensure the program is accessible and effective across the community. We partner with over 110 Safe Place sites throughout Wake County, including libraries, fire stations, community centers, and other trusted public spaces. Each site displays the yellow Safe Place sign on the outside of their building.

How does Safe Place work?

When a young person feels unsafe or needs support, they can go to a designated Safe Place site. These trusted locations are staffed by trained, caring adults who listen and help determine next steps.

The Safe Place site staff focus on creating a safe, comfortable environment and contact Wrenn House. The Wrenn House team responds quickly to assess the situation, ensure immediate safety, and coordinate needed support.
